Under the Surface is a series of drawings that uncover the hidden histories of Brisbane. These drawings came about after returning to Brisbane after a number of years away.
This process of returning brought up questions of reconciling feeling at home in places with traumatic histories.
This artwork looks at the Battle of Brisbane, a conflict between Australian and American troops stationed in the CBD during WW2. This story has become a character defining story of the city. They way we retell this story has created a framework for how I wish First Nations history was told, with deep interest in the social and historical context of each individual to give colour and life to the retelling of events.
